James Ennis gauging interest from Lakers
This comes as no surprise. Lakers are interested in yet another veteran player.
The Los Angeles Lakers’ roster is set, for now. Lakers are still in the market for more veterans and could possibly sign James Ennis.
Ennis has been quite the journeyman since his rookie year. The 2013 50th overall draft selection has come across 7 teams including stops at Miami, Houston, and Philadelphia. In his past two seasons, Ennis has been a solid piece in his starting role for Orlando on an average of 24 minutes of game time. Ennis provided 8.4 points, 4.0 rebounds on a career best 43.3% from deep last season.
Ennis’ most recent playoff run came with the 76ers. During the 2018-19 playoff run he gave in off the bench and proved to be a solid addition. Ennis earned himself a two-year deal with Philadelphia and returned to his place in the NBA.
Marc Stein reported that the Lakers understood wing depth is important and a valuable priority to their team. It was further acknowledged that Los Angeles mentioned James Ennis on their list of targets. As gained in recent weeks by LA, Ennis can give his reliable scoring and defense on a low-cost.
The Lakers are expected to pull the trigger to upgrade their wing depth and Ennis can certainly provide just that with his length, quickness, and defensive instincts. It’s unlikely Ennis doesn’t land with a contender this offseason, but if it doesn’t occur, he has communications overseas and could pivot toward improving his game at now 31 years of age.
